Environmental Impact

At Southshore Adornments we are doing all we can to minimise our impact on the planet. As a manufacturer of natural and synthetic body jewellery, we feel we have a responsibility to do our bit.
-
For many years we have been reducing the packaging used down to recycled and recyclable materials. We use 100% recycled paper, cardboard, paper packing tapes in our mail packing, currently only our grip seal bags that protect your jewellery are mixed virgin & recycled plastics which we plan to phase out by 2023.
-
We ship all orders via Royal Mail, who have the lowest carbon emissions per parcel delivered. And we even drop all orders off at the post office on foot, further reducing unnecessary car usage.
-
We compost all our organic waste and separate our plastics for commercial refuse collections. Eventually we hope to find a partner who can use our PTFE and Delrin waste! (Get in touch if that's you, or someone you know)
Our base metal waste is sent off to foundries via our local scrap merchants. Whilst precious metal scrap is sold at our local trade jeweller's counter, where it will be refined and made into new jewellery. It's a good thing that precious metals can be infinitely recycled and reused.
-
And to top it all off we went one step further in 2021. Where we became certified carbon Neutral with Carbon Neutral Britain.
Carbon Neutral Britain
-
We chose carbon Neutral Britain because they fund projects in Britain and around the world, to reduce the amount of CO² in the earth's atmosphere.
They (and we!) believe planting trees is the most sustainable way to do this. Forests projects absorb CO², refract the earths heat, and have positive impact on wildlife, ecology and biodiversity.
Unlike many 1 order = 1 tree planted schemes, Carbon Neutral Britain do not plant non-native trees in managed forests that are usually set aside to cut down and turn into bio-mass fuel.
-
To keep you safe whilst we are in partnership, we do not give them your data. Which is unlike many "free" carbon neutral schemes. We just think it's best.
